In 1946, just after the end of WWII, Gallatin Valley Furniture opened its doors at 303 East Main in downtown Bozeman, Montana. With the hard work and vision of Don and Veronica DeCosse, and later, Don’s father Edmund, the business began to thrive, one customer at a time. Today, we remain a successful, locally owned store called Gallatin Valley Carpet One Floor & Home.

In the early 1970s, Jim DeCosse, the son of Don and Veronica, entered the family business, followed by their son-in-law and daughter, Dennis and Michelle Cattin.  Family patriarch Don Decosse shared with each of them the fundamentals of the furniture and flooring business, and the importance of providing a great experience to each customer. It was during those years that Gallatin Valley Furniture expanded from its original downtown location to its current North 7th Avenue showroom.

As the flooring division grew, Dennis and Jim joined the Carpet One Floor & Home Co-Op in 1991. This association with Carpet One Floor & Home allowed them to bring a larger offering, greater value, and the best warranties in the industry to the Bozeman marketplace.

Then in 2014 as the business continued to grow, and Jim and Dennis were looking to retire, Gallatin Valley Furniture Carpet One Floor & Home was divided into 2 companies -- Gallatin Valley Furniture and Gallatin Valley Carpet One Floor & Home. This is when the opportunity to purchase Gallatin Valley Carpet One Floor & Home was extended to Stuart and Janet Beiswanger, the now current owners.  An amazing part of this story, and how things can come full circle, is that Stuart started working in flooring sales for Dennis Cattin in 1991.

In 2017, Gallatin Valley Carpet One Floor & Home and Gallatin Valley Furniture joined together to provide an extensive remodel to the building which we both call 'home.'  With an ever-growing community, these improvements allow our respective stores to service our clients with the most current facility.

The level of client service that started back on East Main Street over seventy years ago remains a core part of our business today. Stuart and Janet are honored to carry on the legacy of the store and its involvement in Bozeman and the greater Gallatin County community. We encourage you to visit us soon to learn more, and you can always read our Ratings and Reviews to see what our past clients have to say!

Building for America’s Bravest

Gallatin Valley Carpet One Floor & Home is honored to be a part of Building For America's Bravest in their effort to provide custom-designed smart homes for catastrophically injured service members. As part of the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, each home is custom designed to address the unique needs of each individual. Energy efficient, automated and easily accessible, these homes use "adaptive technology" to help our most severely injured heroes live better, more independent lives. The smart homes built are made possible by the support of many companies and private donations.

In July of 2020, we completed a home for US Army SGT Saul Martinez, who was injured while on deployment in Iraq. On May 8, 2007, SGT Martinez was in the lead vehicle of a convoy in Salman Park, Iraq, when an explosively formed projectile detonated. Two members of his unit were killed instantly. SGT Martinez lost both legs above the knee, and suffered a traumatic brain injury along with severe survivor’s guilt. Since sustaining his injuries, SGT Martinez has not let his condition define him or stop him from preserving. He now serves as Director of Warrior Services for the Warriors & Quiet Waters Foundation in Bozeman. The foundation brings warriors with both seen and unseen wounds from recent wars in Afghanistan and Iraq to Montana to find peace and hope through fly fishing and relaxation. We held the dedication ceremony for SGT Martinez’s new home on July 1st of 2020. You can learn more about Building for America’s Bravest and donate here.
